As God in Christ forgave you

In Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus, he wrote, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you," Ephesians 4:32. How do we forgive as God forgives?

Let's first understand what forgiveness looks like to God. Hebrews 8:12 quotes Jeremiah 31:34 where God tells Jeremiah, "I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sins no more." In Psalm 103:12, David writes "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." And Micah 7:19 says, "You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea." When God forgives us, it is like it never happened. He doesn't remember it, he removes it from us, he buries it in the depths of the sea.

We are to forgive the same way. When someone hurts us, sins against us, we are to remember it no more.  We are to no longer hold that sin against them nor let it influence our future interactions with them.  We bury it in the sea, never to be brought up or discussed ever again.

Who do you need to truly forgive today, as God has forgiven you?
